David Randall-Bodman

David is a native Downeaster, having grown up in the other Washington County, Maine. A graduate of Bowdoin College and Union Theological Seminary in the city of New York, David was ordained in 1988 at Centre Street Congregational Church United Church of Christ in Machias, Maine.

David was called to serve Bethel in 2003. Prior to his arrival in Oregon, he served churches in Boulder, Colorado and Harrisonburg, Virginia. David has encouraged the Bethel congregation to embrace a theology of grace. He is committed to the Still Speaking Initiative's core message: "no matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here!"

David's wife, Jeanne, serves as Pastor at Kairos-Milwaukie UCC. Jeanne and David live in the community and have two sons, Caleb and Jacob.

Owen Hofmann-Smith

Owen Hofmann-Smith brings his considerable musical talents to Bethel's Director of Music Ministry position. A Portland, Oregon native, Owen studied music at Mount Hood Community College and Portland State University, where he earned his Master of Music in conducting. He has appeared as a soloist for many local churches, and worked as a professional jazz musician playing bass, cello and singing.

Owen has a wide variety of instrumental experience. He is also a choral singer and operatic soloist. Owen founded the Oregon Welsh Festival Chorus in 2013, the first Portland-based choir in over 60 years that sings music in Welsh by Welsh composers.

Owen currently resides in Beaverton with his wife, Amanda and his cat Cici.

Beth Astarte
Program Coordinator

Beth brings over 30 years of service to various churches as well as a strong administrative background to the Program Coordinator position. She led the Middle School program at New Thought Center for Spiritual Living for the last 10 years. Beth moved to the Beaverton area when she was six years old and considers herself an “almost” native Oregonian. She has three grown children and enjoys taking harp lessons and spending time with family and friends.

Courtney Czarnecki
OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR

Courtney Czarnecki was born in Seattle, Washington and moved to Portland in 2018. While in Seattle, she worked as an office administrator and program coordinator in the nonprofit sector, mostly working in the arts and humanities. She was very moved by Bethel's dedication to community support and direct outreach that Bethel provides to its community, along with the uplifting values of the congregation and the perspective Rev. David Randall-Bodman shares as Senior Pastor. She enjoys cooking, reading classic novels, long walks, sewing, and exploring Portland. She loves to learn and talk about travel, culture, philosophy, literature, theology, history, science, you name it.

Chad Halligan is a recent graduate of Willamette University where he received a BA in Music. He has been playing the piano for 19 years. Besides accompanying, he also teaches private piano-lessons with a studio of about 20 students.
