Join us this Sunday, November 1st, as Rev. David Randall-Bodman, leads us through the ritual of honoring the saints that have gone before us, with words of remembrance, song, bringing forth roses for those who passed since last All Saints Day, and the lighting of candles in remembrance of those still in our hearts.

Join us for our fall worship series from A Sanctified Art: “I’ve Been Meaning to Ask.” Some of the best conversations start with good questions. We can look for this series to help us find the divine in each other; and to strengthen our community through the vulnerability and authenticity of asking questions; with the hope that this will lead us to engage in conversations that offer glimmers of hope, joy, and beauty—and to become the community God created us to be.

Our annual ‘Stump the Pastor’ Sunday gives our congregation a chance to write in questions for Pastor David to answer on the spot. These questions vary from faith and relationships, to questions about the bible and the life of Jesus, as well as personal inquiries about being a pastor in this day and age. The result is an Instant Sermon, authentic and entertaining, instructive and fun!

Our summer series comes from A Sanctified Art, following the family narratives of Abraham, stories that make the title “ordinary” seem laughable. These stories are potent with drama and disappointment, punctuated by a God who keeps showing up, persistently, creatively, and lovingly. In the mess and the mundane of family life, God works in ways that are surprising, transformative, joyful, reconciling, and unifying. The movement of the Spirit is anything but ordinary.

Our Youth Sunday service is a special day in our calendar where we honor our graduating seniors and lift up the achievements of our kids for the school year. Our youth take the lead in the service, crafting our theme, choosing our music, sharing liturgy and sermon pieces with the congregation. This year, our theme “Good Fruit” encourages us to think about what it truly means to follow Jesus and how our actions in addition to our words produce “good fruit.”

The United Church of Christ (UCC) honors Pentecost as a celebration of the Holy Spirit, and as the "birthday of the Church". Pentecost is a day to commemorate the coming of the Holy Spirit on the early followers of Jesus, and the establishment of the church. The first Pentecost took place a few weeks after Jesus' death and resurrection, and is described in the Acts of the Apostles in the Bible's New Testament.

Traditionally, the church paraments (the cloths decorating the sanctuary) are red, the pastor wears red vestments (the stole), and the congregation wears red. All of that red reminds us that the Spirit has come to us, too, to empower us to tell and be the good news of Jesus.

Our Eastertide Series will be supporting our Capital Campaign, Building a Future of Hope and Love. This theme is about more than investing in our Bethel campus.  We are preparing our church to expand our ministries and the impact we have on our neighborhood and our community.  This is our opportunity to come together in faith and purpose to build a future filled with love that is open to all. On this Sunday, we will wrap up our campaign and our series with celebration!

We are wrapping up this season of Lent, with joyful, expansive hope! This all-generational worship will celebrate Christ’s resurrection with special music, prayers and liturgy. Our sanctuary will be flooded with color from flowers given in honor or memory of loved ones. Kids and youth will once again have an opportunity to Flower the Cross inside. We invite you to come forward to the chancel and sing Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus to conclude worship.

For the season of Lent, we have used the worship series titled “Full to the Brim” from A Sanctified Art to explore the expansive, overflowing love of God:

“Full to the Brim is an invitation—into a radically different Lent, into a full life. It’s an invitation to be authentically who you are, to counter scarcity and injustice at every turn, to pour out even more grace wherever it is needed. It disrupts the scarcity mentality that capitalism, oppression, or hierarchy can plant inside of us. When we allow ourselves to be filled to the brim with God’s lavish love, that love spills over. It reaches beyond ourselves; like water, it rushes and flows, touching everything in its path.”
