Pentecost Sunday - "Celebrating Diversity"

  • Bethel Congregational United Church of Christ 5150 SW Watson Ave Beaverton, OR, 97005 (map)

The United Church of Christ (UCC) honors Pentecost as a celebration of the Holy Spirit, and as the "birthday of the Church". Pentecost is a day to commemorate the coming of the Holy Spirit on the early followers of Jesus, and the establishment of the church. The first Pentecost took place a few weeks after Jesus' death and resurrection, and is described in the Acts of the Apostles in the Bible's New Testament.

Traditionally, the church paraments (the cloths decorating the sanctuary) are red, the pastor wears red vestments (the stole), and the congregation wears red. All of that red reminds us that the Spirit has come to us, too, to empower us to tell and be the good news of Jesus.

Bethel UCC is one of the most vibrant and friendly churches in the Beaverton/Portland Oregon Area, an inclusive Christian congregation, welcoming and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, affirming their full participation in the life of the church.
